“Unveiling Creativity” on April 15th, 2026, showcased the artistic talents of members of the West Springfield Boys & Girls Club. It was organized by Senior Program Director Stephanie Chaffee, with the goal of celebrating the creativity and imagination of our talented members. From vibrant paintings to inspiring sculptures, this event highlighted the fresh ideas and unique perspectives of our young artists. 107 guests attended the event, including kids, parents, and community members. This program was financed in part by a grant of $2,100 from the West Springfield Cultural Council, which is funded by the Mass Cultural Council.
Each of our five sites, as well as “Little Futures” Preschool, created an exhibit according to a different theme. Members of our Before & After School program at Tatham Elementary went with a “Harry Potter” theme, sculpting wands out of sticks and hot glue, creating potted mandrakes, using tacks and silver thread to build constellations on cardboard and even creating their own “house banners.” Mitteneauge Elementary members made a music-themed exhibit by painting on old records, designing musical instruments and album covers, and creating abstract collages based on their favorite songs. Before & After School Members at our Main Street Clubhouse created a space-themed room, with an astronaut cardboard cut-out, rocketship handprints, and personalized planets. At Fausey Elementary, members did photography projects, using lighting techniques to transform ordinary objects into otherworldly images, as well as setting up their own photo booth. Preschoolers and Kindergarteners at John Ashley School created geometric paintings based on the work of artist Piet Mondrian, while members of “Little Futures” Preschool painted collaboratively on a large canvas to create a beautifully abstract art piece.
In addition to enjoying the beautiful art, guests and participants sipped on “mocktails” and nibbled on crackers and cheese provided in the Club Café, tasted Harry-Potter themed treats in the Tatham Elementary exhibit, and created their own art on mini canvases placed throughout the building, inspired by the work of other artists throughout history. This evening marked the second Member Art Exhibit at the West Springfield Boys & Girls Club, and will hopefully be followed by many more to come - and for those who missed it, check out the photo gallery below!
